WITH Easter celebrations just around the corner, a number of shops and services will close or adjust opening hours.
Here we have everything you need to know about the Post Office opening times over Easter and whether there will be postal deliveries.
Is there post over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend?
Royal Mail says that it delivers on most days of the year, including Saturdays.
But it doesn’t deliver or collect on bank holidays, which includes Good Friday and Easter Monday.
You’ll still be able to post a letter at one of the 100,000 post boxes across the country though.
Easter Sunday falls on March 31 this year and it means many shops will be closed.
The day before is a normal day, with shops open and post delivered as usual.
But Good Friday on March 29 and Easter Monday on April 1 are also bank holidays, meaning there will be no post on these days either.
Will the Post Office be open over the Easter bank holiday weekend?
The Post Office closes on bank holidays.
If you need to send a larger package or need other services from the Post Office, you’ll need to do this before or after the bank holiday.
So the deadline would be Thursday, March 28, 2024.
Courier and postal services, including Royal Mail will end their Easter break and resume normal opening hours on April 2, 2024.
To check if your nearest Post Office is open visit their website, type in your postcode and a list of nearby branches with their details should appear.
It will also show opening hours.
What other Bank Holidays are there?
A bank holiday is a national public holiday in the UK and the Crown Dependencies, and in the Republic of Ireland.
They were first introduced by banker, politician and scientific writer Sir John Lubbock, who drafted the Bank Holiday Act in 1871 – which was repealed and replaced by the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971.
Easter isn’t the only Bank Holiday in 2024.
Royal Mail says on its website that the following dates in England and Wales will also be affected.
There are no collections or deliveries on:
- Early May Bank Holiday – Monday, May 6
- Spring Bank Holiday – Monday, May 27
- Summer Bank Holiday – Monday, August 26
- Christmas Day – Monday, December 25
- Boxing Day – Tuesday, December 26
